I was sent this quote and it was attributed to Abe Lincoln. I tried checking Snopes first, but couldn't find it and then googled the quote to see that it was actually penned by William Boetche, a German-born Presbyterian minister. Apparently this is a common mistake, with President Reagan even attributing the "Ten Cannots" to Lincoln in a speech in 1992.
